Support Engineering Limited was founded in 1999 by Julian Dayment to provide consultancy and training services for the management and analytical activities associated with the design and implementation of support solutions. This includes the application of techniques such as Systems and Support Engineering, Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and Logistic Support Analysis (LSA). Julian has extensive experience in the practical application of these disciplines and techniques. This experience was gained over a 20 year period whilst employed by Rolls Royce, LSC Group and BMT Reliability Consultants. Over this time Julian worked as a support engineer, consultant, instructor, project manager, marketing manager and managing director (LSC Scandinavia) working with customers such as Airbus, BAE Systems, GEC Marconi, IBM, SAAB, Racal, Ultra Electronics, MBDA, Rolls Royce, UK MoD, Swedish MoD, Norwegian Air Force, Australian Army and the Finnish MoD working on projects such as, A400M, Gripen, F18, C130, Attack Helicopter, Eurocopter, Tornado, Typhoon, Hawk, Harrier, Future Carrier, Type 45 Destroyer, Leopard II, Challenger II, AS90 and Bowman.
Since the establishment of Support Engineering Limited in 1999 BAE Systems has been and remains a key client. The Company has provided consultancy and training services to a range of BAE Systems projects including; Tornado, Hawk, VC10, Nimrod, Type 45 Destroyer, Future Carrier, Astute, AS90, Terrier, Sea Wolf and a number of training solution programmes. In addition the Company has worked with BAE Systems on the development of Support Engineering and Business Modelling guidance documentation within the BAE Systems Life Cycle Management framework. This includes the development of an Integrated Solution Business Model (ISBM). The ISBM is a business process model which is used within BAE Systems for the capture and sharing of best practice.
The Company has also worked with a number of BAE Systems projects on the development of the business approach for availability and performance based contracts. This includes the Tornado ATTAC, Nimrod NISC, VC10 JAVELIN and Typhoon Partnered Support projects.
In 2010 the Company started working with Rolls Royce Defence in Bristol. This work includes; helping with the development of internal processes for service centric projects, service solution design consultancy and the provision of bespoke service design training.
A key Company service is business process modelling consultancy. The Company has helped many projects at the bid stage with the development of business process models that capture a representation of the ‘to be’ solution. Recent work in this area includes a number of BAE Systems Insyte projects. Additionally, the Company has helped develop generic process models which guide the user on sequence and how work activities are performed. Process models are developed using the Business Modeller (QualiWare) or MEGA software. The Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) standard is used to guide model development.
Between 2006 and 2008 the Company helped with the development and delivery of a strategic internal BAE Systems course, Enabling Through-Life Capability. The course addresses the design and operation of availability contracts. The Company was involved with the delivery of over 50 of these courses.
Currently the Company is working with the BAE Systems Business & Solution Modelling (B&SM) Capability helping with the development and presentation of awareness and practitioner training courses. To date the Company has developed and delivered six different courses which address a range of specialist topics. Examples include; Integration Fundamentals, Verification and Validation, Solution Modelling Fundamentals and Business Capture Modelling. The Company has so far delivered over 30 of these courses.
In addition to the current work with BAE Systems and Rolls Royce the Company has worked with other clients such as; Swedish FMV, IFS Defence, IBM, Siemens, MBDA and Aerosystems International.
